I got off work early today and went back to my hotel to take a short nap. When I woke up I had a craving for sushi. I had read some online reviews and saw that Aloha Sushi had won a Best of Folsom award for Best Sushi restaurant. Therefore, it was with high hopes that I went to Aloha. Aloha is located about a quarter mile from the hotel where I was staying.

Aloha is located in a large open air shopping complex with a Home Depot on one end. I used the Hertz NeverLost GPS to find the restaurant but it only took me to the parking lot. I had to call the restaurant and they told me that they were on the end of the complex by the Starbucks.

Aloha Sushi is a modern storefront restaurant with a medium size sushi bar. The menu featured a wide variety of sushi rolls and several large combo dinners. I ordered a small sashimi combo and a Philadelphia roll. When the waitress brought me a plate and a dish for soy sauce. They were cheap plastic like you might find in a school cafeteria.

I also ordered the gyoza appetizer. I was pleasantly surprised, the gyoza was delicately fried and had a slightly spicy sauce. it was very good. My Philly roll was nicely made and cut into eight pieces. The one odd thing was that the sushi rice on the roll was very tightly pressed. Almost as if it had been rolled y a machine. I saw the chef roll it by hand but I don't think I have ever seen the rice rolled that tightly. The rice also seemed to be extra sticky since it held together extremely well.

The sashimi was arranged in a rather plain manner. The fish however was good. I got some salmon. tuna, yellowtail and snapper along with two pieces of Tamago. Tamago is a sweet omelet that is wrapped over itself many times.

Aloha Sushi is the kind of restaurant I go back to over an over again.
