Osaka Tea Garden is a full service Japanese restaurant located near the Massachusetts border in Nashua, New Hampshire. I have been to Osaka 4 or 5 times over the past few years and it is consistently good. The sushi at Osaka is always top quality.

Tonight I had a tuna and avacodo roll and it was excellent. The rolls I had were fresh but seemed to be inconsistently made. The individual pieces were of varying size as if the rolls had been assembled haphazardly. I also tried the live scallop sushi, a delicacy not available on many menus. The scallop is opened, sliced, placed on sushi rice and served immediately. Scallops are a favorite of mine and they were especially delicate and tasty at Osaka tonight.

On this trip, I decided to try a hot appetizer. I tried the Golden Scallop. It is a live scallop sliced thin and returned to its shell. The scallop slices are arranged over a bed of finely cut shitaake mushrooms. The mixture is covered with a flavored Japanese mayonaise. The filled shell is then baked until the mayonaise browns a bit on the edges. I can hardly describe the taste. The mayonaise is sweet and the mushrooms and scallops are a finely textured counterpoint. I will definitely try more hot appetizers on my next visits.
